Surrounded by riches and gold, the infamous titans of ancient Greece rested and enjoyed their daily lives as if there was nothing else to live for. No one thought of the worries, of poverty or the miserable mortals who lived below their mountain.
Cronus was a greedy, impatient man who beat his wife and swallowed his every heir in order for the throne to remain his for all eternity.
Luckily Rhea herself wasn't foolish and hid her very last son from his vengeful father. Her precious little boy was given to mountain nymphs who raised him into a true king and conquerer of Mount Olympus.
At the young age of nineteen, handsome Zeus was ready to battle against his father and with all his might over took the kingdom. Cronus was then imprisoned, his siblings and children set free.
To bond Zeus' newly found thrown he was ought to marry a royalty and since his elder brother Poseidon already claimed beautiful Amphitrite, daughter of Zeus' great uncle Oceanus, his sisters were left as potential brides.
There was Hestia - the eldest, with bright eyes and a smart mind. She was a household goddess who adored calm and peace. There was Demeter - wise and witty, full of charm and seduction. And there was the young Hera who, at the time, was nothing more than a quiet virgin. She never looked up, staring at the ground. Her waist length blond hair lay on her shoulders over her thin, small frame.
He never really understood what he had liked in her but clearly it was something. To Zeus this young girl seemed like a gift from Chaos.
"Look up at me." he told her, touching her cheek. Pulling her face away, she glared up with the blue eyes filled with anger that graced her face.
"Don't touch me." she growled. Zeus was shocked. Any girl would be grateful to marry him - he was handsome, brave and a hero to the Greek empire. But Hera wasn't just the black lamb amongst the white; she was the wolf.

"Hera..." Rhea whispered to her daughter, touching her shoulder the night before the wedding. "It's your destiny."
"No, mother! It's Hestia's and Demeter's destiny to be queen! I am none of the kind, I'll flee to Italy to live by my cousin Juno if you don't free me now!" she cried.
"Hera, Juno married Jupiter. She's pregnant now. No one needs another foolish girl with a potential marriage of her own to mope around and do nothing." Rhea told her daughter sharply.
Hera was left to marry Zeus and become Queen. At the time she had no idea what power it would give her. On the morning of her wedding Hera chopped off all her hair with Zeus' sword and came to ceremony looking indifferent and distant.
It took just four seasons for Hera to grow into the woman she was meant to be. Politically she was much more intelligent than Zeus. She had power over mortals and other gods. Finally the jewels and silks fitted well and the gold that decorated her palace was no longer startling. Her blond locks grew as did the misery in her eyes. Zeus for the first few months was the perfect husband. He managed to make her fall in love with himself. It took him a month to get her into bed with him. By the following summer the very first child of Hera and Zeus was born - Ares. He was the only of their children conceived in love and affection.

Zeus changed when Hera fell pregnant. Her frame was no longer as slim and she was moody. She didn't even let him touch her. So the king found comfort in his sister Demeter's arms.
Demeter bore him beautiful Persephone who was the burden to Hera's young heart. She never spoke to her favorite sister as she had before and sought comfort in Hestia's arms. Virginal Hestia never let Zeus near her. The two sisters abandoned Demeter who at the time was deeply in love with Zeus and hoping to be queen some day.
But Zeus wasn't a fool and perfectly knew that his people loved Hera. No one would agree to a divorce but if they did the throne would be Hera's.
He left Demeter alone and heartbroken and continued finding comfort in other women. From every knew of his affairs Hera's hatred and rage grew making her seem almost evil. But so the Olympians were formed. Apollo and Artemis, children of Leto and Zeus. Dionysus, Aphrodite and of course, Zeus' favorite, Athena.
Hera had another one daughter for Zeus, Hebe. Her last child was her beloved Hephaestus who was born an outcast and crippled. Zeus despised the boy but most of all he hated Hera for ever having the child.
Aphrodite was given to marry to Hephaestus since Hera wanted the most beautiful woman for her boys. Hebe was betrothed to Hercules who was Zeus' half mortal son. When he turned god Hebe was married to him at once.

The only child left with no wife remains Ares who usually saw nothing in women but a sex partner. However he now is interested in Aphrodite. Hera and Zeus barely speak or look each others way. He is too busy having affairs while she is struggling to keep the country on it's feet. However there is a new man in Hera's loveless life... young, handsome Dionysus who's ready to face anything for his Queen.
